School and Library Visits
I love talking with readers (both young and old) about the joys of writing and reading, the value of stories, and the power of words. My interactive talk is geared towards grades 3-8 and delves into four important components of storytelling--inspiration, imagination, practice, and perseverance--while weaving in my own novels and life experience. In addition, I offer writing workshops on multiple topics ranging from character creation to figurative language to hooking your reader. I also offer free, twenty-minute Q&A sessions virtually to any class or small group reading one of my books.

What Past Hosts Have Said...
"The author’s humorous storytelling captivated the students' imaginations, and interactive writing workshop sessions inspired them to craft their own descriptive writing and story hooks. Our students came away from the author sessions with an enthusiasm for reading, an appreciation for the power of words, and an eagerness to explore their own writing." Joan Lange, Director of Libraries, Annunciation Orthodox School, Houston
“I want to thank you so much for talking with our students yesterday. You were very entertaining. The discussion with our students was inspiring and thoughtful and your book brought that introspection out in them.” Amy Blauvelt, Frederick Tuttle Middle School, Vermont
"Thank you so much for talking with our students. We are a title 1 school so most of the students come from very hard backgrounds. This made their whole day. One of the students in the crowd came up after asking you a question with tears in her eyes saying that was the only thing that made her smile in a really long time. What you did today mattered to these kids and from the bottom of my heart thank you for providing them with this opportunity. " Libby Barrett, Edge Middle School, Nevada
"We want to thank you for taking the time to speak with our classes. It was informative and entertaining. We all enjoyed your anecdotes, questions, and jokes very much! As the teacher, I will be able to refer to your insight and explanations about the writing process throughout the year to reinforce what we are learning. I learned a lot from you! I really enjoyed that you took the time to make a connection with each student and ask them questions. " Kelly Medve, Beachwood Middle School, Ohio
